UPCOMING EVENTS

New York 2140 by Kim Stanley Robinson

Saturday September 12, 11am to 12 noon ET (US & Canada)

Join us to discuss a post-disaster fairy tale—a long novel for August vacation. Sea levels have risen fifty feet, and lower Manhattan is a half-drowned "Super Venice," with skyscrapers wading in canals where streets used to be. Through the interlocking stories of the residents of one co-op, including hackers, the building superintendent, a police inspector, a finance bro, two orphaned teens hunting sunken treasure, Robinson asks how "the city that never sleeps" adapts to everyday life after climate catastrophe. Life goes on, and the rich keep getting richer. Some say this novel takes a visionary approach to climate collapse. Kirkus Reviews calls it “a thoroughly enjoyable exercise in world-building.”
